Has anyone tried taking Glucosamine - chondrotion for knee pain? I just had my 3rd knee surgey and I would like to hear about results and brands.
Thanks
although i religiously take it, i have never noticed a difference. i guess that at some level i am hoping that it works.

GLucosamine has been proven not to work in a double blind pacebo blah blah blah. I dont have the lit but if you are intrested I can dig it up. Anyways M&M; is proven to be effective.

my dad's been taking it for about six years now since i got him on it. he's very tall and has a calcium deficiency....and he's jb's age
it's helped him so much.
as with anything though, everything differs for different people
raw
almost only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and sometimes social dances........oh yeah...ain't nothin about me real on this internet shit, so don't quote me.
I still use it, I have for years. LIke JB I did not notice a difference when I started but the times I have stopped I notice... From what I understand of the studies that disprove its usefulness it is very dose dependent. the bigger you are the more you need and its quite a bit more than the label tells you.
On the other hand I started using cissus 3 months ago and the results i have seen with cissus are noticeable to me.
Again the studies all showed that M&M; as a base was effective. It was even more effective when you added in the glucosamine along with the M&M;

Ok I give - what's M&M;?
perhaps he meant MSM, "MSM enhances tissue pliability and encourages the repair of damaged skin(8) MSM levels in humans decline with age, resulting in symptoms of fatigue, tissue and organ malfunction, and increased susceptibility to disease."

Also bear in mind that from alot of the studies, the results are pooled across eg. 100 patients, and although overall there isn;t much evidence for glucosamine, some people will get a response, its just that they gety cancelled out in the analysis by the non-responders.
So bottom line is give it a go & see if it helps, no reported sides so at least it shouldn't do any harm.
Randomised trials aren't the be-all & end all of medicine. Favourite quote from an old boss of mine"there are no randomised trials proving that parachutes work if you jump out of an airplane, but anecdotal evidence suggests they work"

since i live right across from a sport parachuting center, i can tell you that there is lots of anecdotal evidence that they do not always work!

Some things work some of the time, but all things do not work all the time .
