Well I have been thinking about sterilization using heat on steroid solutions. Since the steroids take multi-6-membered chain structures it is possible to change the conformation through heat. Or turn a ring from cis to trans on the alcohol group, or less likely change the structure to a 'boat' confirmation. Has anyone actually run a light refracting analysis to determine l or d rotation? I would be interested because surely the slight change in chemical structure would effect a enzymatic pathway... Any information on this?
I dont know of any test being done, but I would say heating is safe up to a certain temperature. Pharmacuetical companies sterilize with heat, as do hospitals. In fact, glass ampules containing steroids often contain so little or no BA that heat sterilization is the only cost effective method available.
Well since I have access to the chem lab at my school I may just run a little experiment. Call it "undergraduate research". I will bring to solution several powders and heat them up to different temps and run both IR and light refrac.

Let us know the results, but just be carefull with bringing scheduled substances in to your school. Make sure nobody knows what your doing. Feel free to borrow some lab equiptment for me though, lol. :joke:
with stereoisomers I would suspect a gas chromatogram yield a single peak for both isomers, in addition to the oil and whatever happens to be present in the solution. Same with NMR, I would suspect the splits to be the exact same. Could be that having a racemic solution would not effect the enzymatic pathway, but after learning the basic chemistry of enzymes I am not so sure of that. Sugars have similar functional groups and basic structures as steroids, and this last experiment I ran with glucose yielded some interesting results. At body temperature there was a 97% conversion of alpha-D-Glucose to beta-D-Glucose. Now most steroidal compounds have more stability then this, but enough to withstand 250-300 deg F?
Just wondering if any results are in on heating hormone compounds to a certain level? When I dissolve my hormone I usually give thema warm bath and get them up to 260-270 degrees F THanks
Keep this post bumped... I would like to hear feedback on temperature affecting the quality of our homemade gear!!.. I mean If Im giving my test-E a hot water bath to uniformley dissolve the powder with the ba and BB at 260F .. and its ruining it thats a big problem! We need to look into this further
