The new DMSO bottles come with a pump dispensor, so you could actually pre mix everything and just pump. It is a big pump so you could pretty much get everything through it.
Thanks heavyweight. Anyone know the purpose of sodium hydroxide?
Sodium hydroxide is a strong base which is used ot adjust the ph of the solution. Carbomer 940(a gelling/thickening agent) requires a ph in the range of 5-7, although for transdermal preps I find the range needs to be 7-7.5. If the ph doesn't fall within this range then when you add the carbomer it mixes only with the water soluble compounds.
Thank you ersatz, so what is the optimum ph for a transdermal and why?
Test 50mg
carbomer 940
ethyl alcohol 68.9%
isopropol myristate
sodium hydroxide
water
forgive me if i'm being dense, what are the % per compound for that formula? thanks...
The optimum ph should be around 7 which makes it fairly neutral. For the carbomer to work, ie thicken the solution into a gel, the ph needs to be in a certain range as previously mentioned.
DocJ: that looks like the ingredients in AndroGel which only had a 10% absorption rate. You can construct better carriers with higher absorption rates closer to 30%.
Where are some of you getting your glycerin from?

It is androgel, I did say I got it from the doctors. That is why I am using it with DMSO
Just wanted to revive this thread. Has anyone figured out how much carbomer to use per XX ML solution?
