I wanted to see if folks here had recent experiences using Iron Dextran (human or vet grade) to maintain ferritin, especially on long E cycles.
I'm getting sick of all the oral iron and was thinking of using 100mg iron dextran/week (or whatever the appropriate dose is) to keep ferritin high.
I've read the z-track technique for IM injection, seems reasonable enough.
So let's have it - anyone doing this and by chance have before/after ferritin labs? Feel free to PM me if you prefer.
thanks!
ive had exp with inject iron but no labs. i did it cause i ran out of orals. only exp. advice can offer is trying the z track first with b12 or something similar just to make sure you've gotten it down pat. you don't want an iron tattoo.
I have used IM fe many times--1. the quality if IM fe is a major factor. 2. the injection protocol is important. 3. IM inj works quicker and lower dose is needed;but is not really more effective than oral. 4. IM is good for low level fe emergencies when using E. 5. IV drip feed or slow push method is really the best method ;but must be done by health pro. 6. no matter how careful u are u will shoot too fast and get a skin stain at some stage. M/track
Mad, does the quality of vet grade iron dextran stand up? Cos it's super cheap compared to the pharma grade stuff.
How long does an iron stain last? Hopefully not forever!!!
never used that one king.Venofer and cosmofer were good(human grade)I used generics which were not so good. Some fe inj is for IM only;these usually have b12 and folic acid with the fe.Protocol:-- inject very slowly with 21g needle, when shot is complete leave needle in glute for 1 minute;then withdraw slowly(this helps to lessen staining as fe is absorbed into muscle)do not sit down for 1hr(after which the fe will be absorbed)do not shoot before training as it works quick and can cause slight breathlessness.(better after training anyway when levels are low) I have only had staining when using generics and shooting too quick;u dont always remember to shoot slowly. In my experience the more painful the shot the lower quality of the fe and the more chance of staining.I still have small patch from years ago;i just used to tell the chicks it was a roastie from sliding over a concrete track(along with the real roastie scars looks same)do small 10mg dose first ,to make sure u dont get aph.shock.Like i say drip feed is the way to go,one dose can cover 2-4 weeks;but in my opinion proff. asistance is needed for dose calc.and administration. thanks - great info
