quick oats are fine. They don't have to be old fashioned. But make sure it's not the instant packaged stuff. That's all sugar and fat.

Quick Oats are actually slightly less processed than Oatmeal itself. In fact the no frills brands usually are the least processed and contain the most carbs per 100 grams. Definately the best pick.

I dropped a duece this morning and then looked at it... I looked closely and could have sworn I saw Leonardo DiCaprio clinging to the side of it saying..."I won't let go...I won't let you go..." Then I thought I heard Celine sing..."My heart will go on..." Oatmeal makes everything right in the world.... FOX

plain oatmeal is one of the healthiest things you can eat, good complex carbs, and as fox so eloquently described, plenty of fiber

Quick oats are in a sense processed an do have a higher glycemic index. I use Quaker Old Fashioned, microwave for about 2 minutes, add splenda, cinnamon, nutmeg, any fruit to taste, some smart balance butter (no trans fats an barely any sat fat). good shit

I buy the Malt-o-Meal Brand Big Bowl, instant Oatmeal. I compared the Macros to all the other brands, like Quaker and Steel Cut and the y are the same. The Big Bowl instant is great esp with Skim milk, peanut butter and some splenda. I always have this with my Eggs on my cheat day.

Blue Bell brand ice cream has only 22g carbs and 12g fat ... that surely doesnt mean its ok for me to eat. Although we have protein, carbs, fats .. there are different types of each and we must educate ourselves about each type. peace

I hear what you are sayiing with the Ice Cream analogy but that is like comparing apple to oranges. The Macros and Micros are almost identical from Quaker regular 10minute oats to the instant. I am not going to waste and extra 15 minutes in the morning waiting for my water to boil and cook oatmeal for 10 minutes just to gain .05grams of fiber. I think we are talking about splitting hairs here. I agree most processed instant foods are bad but cooking 6 meals a day is a pain in the as it is anyway.

I am referring to the GI of the carbs mainly ... anything instant (processed) will yield a higher GI level .. and that IS what the original thread was started asking. I agree that it may be splitting hairs, but it is an honest answer to the question. peace
