I have tried masking the taste of tuna with everything from pickles, olives, fat free mayo, mustard of various flavors, lettuce, and god knows what else but the only thing I can conclude is tuna sucks balls and I f***ing hate tuna. Now I eat it straight up plain. Luckily I am on a very high protein diet so I get to eat 2 1/2 to 3 cans a meal for 2 or 3 meals a day....yeaaaa!!! Btw I hate chicken and egg whites too, but I eat the hell out of them everyday as well.

Bros... easiest, fastest, not so bad way here... 1 can drained tuna 2 cups water 1/2 packet of crystal light blend Don't knock it before ya try it. I have one everyday.

No offense Lurker but reading your recipe makes me want to punch someone in the face.

There used to be a thread on the old GrowXXL with tons of ideas for making tuna taste better. Tuna is a great source of protein and its cheap, so its a huge staple in my diet and I usually just eat it out of the can but that gets old fast. My favorite way to prepare it is an old recipe that DrB2K came up with and thats as follows

  • take your normal small can of tuna and drain the water.
  • add 1 to 2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil to tuna
  • add 1 to 2 teaspoons of your favorite bbq sauce
  • mix everything together and enjoy

You will find that the extra virgin olive oil takes away the fishy taste from the tuna, and the bbq sauce adds some flavor. My favorite thing about this tuna dish is that you cant tell its tuna, it taste more like pulled pork. Feel free to add your own way to make tuna taste better

I'm gonna try this one. The way I've been eating it for a long time is to drain the can. Stir the tuna in the can and wash it with water. Then dump it in a bowl and add salsa and several crushed salt free saltine crackers. This is a good way to eat it also.

My fav. way to eat tuna is with cheese (shred it first; about 1/2c per can--can be low fat too): mix/break up the tuna in a pan with some pam sprayed in it & put the cheese in it. Wait for it to begin to stick together, then add about 1tbs. of mayo and I usually put a lil' mustard or pickle relish in there too. Then wait for cheese to melt completely...and you're ready to eat! LOVE it that way!

Something sililiar to this was on the old thread pre-crash. Take a can tuna and put it out on a plate, add 1 teaspoon lemon juice on it and top with a slice of cheese. Now nuke it for like 15 seconds, just enough time to melt the cheese and warm the tuna. Surprisingly this was much better than it sounded. They can make zero calories butter spray why can't they come up with a zero calories Mayo???

what works for me is Hot Sauce (Tapatio) Lemon Juice and just a tiny dash of garlic salt. Perfect to eat out of the can

There are some very interesting ideas here. Not so sure about the crystal light/blending method but whatever... I am a big fan of tuna, cottage cheese, tomato and a little bit of olive oil dressing. but I am going to have to try the BBQ sauce deal.

We cook it the same way you do though! And i know i posted this pre-server crash....but b/c mayo is so bad, and i have to cook for myself & the 4 kids during the day, i have to find a happy medium, so we use sourcream instead of the mayo. Even on our sandwhiches we use sourcream whether it be a hot ham & cheese or a reg. sub type....sourcream is a great substitute for mayo!

Hey Antihero, Glad to hear you like the recipe. Tuna gets old after a while. Ya gotta do something to mix it up a little. I love BBQ so it's like an added bonus. Thanks for giving me props BTW. It is much appreciated. Good to see you back on the new board. Doc
