There used to be a thread on the old GrowXXL with tons of ideas for making tuna taste better. Tuna is a great source of protein and its cheap, so its a huge staple in my diet and I usually just eat it out of the can but that gets old fast. My favorite way to prepare it is an old recipe that DrB2K came up with and thats as follows
- take your normal small can of tuna and drain the water.
- add 1 to 2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil to tuna
- add 1 to 2 teaspoons of your favorite bbq sauce
- mix everything together and enjoy
You will find that the extra virgin olive oil takes away the fishy taste from the tuna, and the bbq sauce adds some flavor. My favorite thing about this tuna dish is that you cant tell its tuna, it taste more like pulled pork. Feel free to add your own way to make tuna taste better
Sounds good! I've been "trying" to eat clean after my competition and I've discovered a new way to eat my tuna. I want to stay away from bread and mayo so what I've done is mixed some onions in my tuna, sprayed it with the zero calorie Becel butter spray, also sprayed some plain rice cakes with the butter spray...topped them up with the tuna and voila! I don't know if they tasted absolutely delicious because I was deprived for 24 weeks so if anyone tries this let me know what you think. I love it...
I'm giving it a try
Just add a little salsa for me.... kinda takes the edge off....
i like to use some tarragon vinegar, olive oil and dijon mustard.
you guys have beat me to it...again I've done the evoo and bbq route...good done the mustard route (have to try with the vinegar though) the easiest one I know of is to rinse the ever livin' sh&* out of it with cold water in a strainer and squeeze a lemon over it and add some black pepper my personal favorite is to rinse it...add lemon and pepper and then mix in diced black olives and hot giardenera...quite yummy you can also add artichokes to this which makes it a little more fun... but the ULTIMATE...I think this is an old Melvin Anthony recipe...take the tuna and drain it (I would add rinse it) scoop tuna into blender add a few ice cubes and some diet coke...blend it and drink away I've tried this (yes I am an idiot 😮 ) and suggest you do not...
hahaha rice cakes salsa banana peppers pickles onions vinegar olive oil bbq sauce horseradish multiple seasonings everything, and or mixed!!!!! im so sick of tuna, lol ive been eating it straight for a loong time
Some great ideas, but I think I'll pass on the blended tuna and diet coke
My fav. way to eat tuna is with cheese (shred it first; about 1/2c per can--can be low fat too): mix/break up the tuna in a pan with some pam sprayed in it & put the cheese in it. Wait for it to begin to stick together, then add about 1tbs. of mayo and I usually put a lil' mustard or pickle relish in there too. Then wait for cheese to melt completely...and you're ready to eat! LOVE it that way!
actually blended tuna and diet coke is not so bad considering the rigors of dieting.somehow your taste buds get weird and stuff doesnt taste horrible.besides its quick and you get the nutrients you need.actually it was probably palumbo or author l.rea that suggest the shake.anyway a frosty and wendys is better. 🙂
I hate the taste of canned tuna, so I usually have to add celery to it, and plenty of pepper. But, I have found another way to deaden the taste a bit, equal parts of cottage cheese to a can of tuna.... I like knowing that I am geting my dairy and calcium along with my protein.... The celery is still a must...though. Celery is a great diuretic, so that is an added benefit. Stilletto :smiliedrool:
Sauteing (olive oil instead of butter) up the tuna in a frying pan makes it taste completely different as well. I like to add a touch of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, some lemon pepper, and a bit of garlic powder.
Do you guys in the U.S and Canada etc get flavoured Tuna in the can. Over here in New Zealand we get flavoured tuna e.g Tomato and onion flavoured Tuna, Sweet Chilli Tuna, Lemon Pepper Tuna etc? I get rice wafers which I pile some cottage cheese on. Then on top of the cottage cheese I spread over some sweet chilli tuna. Its bloody beautiful. Evo
Usually shaved or with a landing strip... sorry... had to say it. Anyhow, can't take credit for this recipe... a guy at the campus resteraunt came up with this: 1) can of tuna in water 2) hot sauce (he used Frank's Red Hot but i prefer tobasco) 3) relish (2 spoon fulls) 4) spicy mustard (one spoon full) I would just put in on salad or on a bagel.
Bros... easiest, fastest, not so bad way here... 1 can drained tuna 2 cups water 1/2 packet of crystal light blend Don't knock it before ya try it. I have one everyday.
