Would 25 grams of malto before a carb depletion workout be ok? I know some carbs have to be injested to make sure you're not in ketosis..........just wondering if that woulds be too much. The workout will be 20 to 26 high rep sets. I weigh about 210.

25 grams shouldn't hurt you.

I don't have a direct answer but here are a few things to think about:

1. A well trained athlete's body can store 1500- 2000 calories worth of carbs/glycogen

2. You'll burn part of that off during sleep (400 - 700 calories depending on your metabolism)

3. Depending on the intensity of your work out, you'll burn fat along with what's left of the stored carbs

What I'm saying is that if you are trying to totally deplete glycogen from your body, it'll take a longer workout if you add 25 grams of malto before the workout.

Question: Is ketosis bad? Isn't this when your body mobilizes fat to the liver to use as energy?

I just have some sugar-free oat bran, seems healthier than malto.

There's varying opionions on ketosis. When cycling carbs, I'm usually only in ketosis a couple days. If you eat a high protien, moderate fat diet, you'll only see trace ketones. I believe this is pretty safe and you still get the fat burning effect and the supercompensation of glycogen stores.

In order to monitor ketosis check if your mouth is smelling bad.
