Is it possible to diet and not take carbs? ONly lean meat? eggs? Can protein be burned as fuel?

Yes, it's possible to diet without carbs (atkins).

Yes, protein can be burned as fuel. I believe the body converts it with 40% efficiency, but I'd have to search for the abstract.

I don't agree with carb-less diets. I believe the body needs carbs for a multitude of reasons.

a keto diet is great for losing weight but not so great for building and maintaining muscle.

Okay,ill be competing so yea i won't be able to go on a keto diet. I just wanna get in competition condition thru diet and of course cardio. So i thought maybe atkins would help.

You need carbs to keep the intensity levels high, you need carbs to maintain your brain working properly, you need carbs to keep your mood stable, etc.
