I'm talking isolation exercises designed for lower chest, flat presses and flys etc. It seems to me since I stopped doing flat presses and flat flys my chest has exploded in size. I'm still debating hitting a few decline sets maybe once a month. So is it possible by just doing heavy upper chest exercises I can keep making these killer gains? Curious to know if others out there are doing the same thing.

I haven't done decline bench, or any other lower pec work since my first year of working out, 7 years ago. For some reason, my lower pecs seem to develop more easily than the upper (and judging by what many people in the gym, a lot of other people have the same problem) pecs. Based on that, I just don't bother to really do chest movements where my upper arms angle towards my feet.

cable crossovers work the lower chest, but your pressing motions should be mostly incline

I do alot of dips but that is about it. haven't done decline presses in ages. Usually only do flat and incline presses (DB,bar, machine)

I do not. Decline bench and any isolation exercises for the lower chest make my pecs get a pointy look. I like the squared off armor-plated look.

I concentrate on upper chest followed by flat work. Rarely will I do decline stuff. If I do, it's only for variety's sake.

Haven't done decline in years. I mostly concentrate on my upper chest. Once I develop me upper chest I might think about returning to decline

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling not many people were hitting decline and that a large majority were emphasizing upper chest. Since I started hammering my upper chest and quit flat presses/flys and decline my chest has inflated. Gonna stick with this for a while and if lower looks like it's starting to suffer I'll go back, but it seems to be maintaining.

I only do flats, flys, and Hammer Strength inclines. I had rotator cuff surgery on both of my shoulders so I don't do declines. Too much stress on your delts. My therapist said its a no no. You should be able to do more weight on declines with your back being arched.

Doctor told me that decline bench is very hard on the shoulder joints. I had a couple of shoulder dislocations while wrestling in H.S. and I was told that if I worked out I should not do any decline exercises. I still do them but I have to go very light and strict or my shoulders have a tendency to lock up or slip out of place.
