i know this type of post has come up a thousand times, but i had to post this. yesterday, my wife and i were working out and this couple that is there everyday was once again taking up every bench that we wanted to use. i can handle this, but i can't handle the way they work out. this guy loads the leg press with about 8 plates on each side and takes it down like 2 inches and pounds out 10 reps while making obnoxious noises. his wife (girlfriend) does the same with 4 plates on each side. my wife got pissed at me when i wanted to go over and ask him to do a full rep to see if he could actually do the weight. of course it's none of my business, but i can't stand seeing these ass holes walking around in their tank tops with no tone and doing too much weight with no form and WAY to fast. then, i was talking to this guy that i talk to often. he is a really nice person and we got into a conversation about how he couldn't grow. he said he had been working out for a few years and couldn't put on any muscle (granted he is about 6' 165 soaking wet...but nice hehe). anyway, i go on to tell him that he needs to eat, eat, eat b/c food is the most anabolic thing for the body and he won't grow unless he has sufficient protien and cals. anyway, for some reason we were talking and i happened to mention that my chest is my slowest growing body part. he asked me how often i worked it and i told him that i work every body part once per week. he immediately, like he was a guru or something, told me that since my chest was a large muscle group, i needed to work it three times/week. i said, "no! you're wrong...i would definitely be overtraining it and that my lack of growth is partly due to genetics. he was adiment b/c some guy told him he had to work his chest 3X/week. i had to just walk away. here i am 5'9" 226 and this scrawny fuck is telling me how to work out. sorry for the rant...just had to get it off my chest (no pun intended :)). my wife just tells me to chill out, but my gym need to make all members take a course in how to properly use the equipment. no wonder there are so many damn back problems with beginners. i'm out and sorry for the long post!...jme
Good post, even though it is long, just kiddin The only thing I see at my gym is most peaple dont touch their chest when they do bench press. They stop about 2 inches from their chest. Jager.

Yeah I hear ya bro.I get these scawney guys coming up to me and critiquing my lifting etc.I am 220 5'8.I just laugh. My calves are bigger than these guy's thighs.I tell them if they want to learn how to grow, then just ask otherwise step off.I work out with my wife often and she just laughs with me.
I dont offer nor accept any advice in the gym except from the guy who runs the place who is 5'9 240 lbs and tears phone books in half just for the fun of it. People need to learn to mind their own bizz and resist the urge to straighten everyone else out.
i have this dickhead in my gym. Hits on everything with a skrit always giving me a dirty look. He is a fat tub of shit,and i'am 265 at 7% body fat. I want to go over ask him what the fuck are you looking at.

I got one too. I saw a guy at the gym recently he had a workout towel (the smaller kind) all folded up and on his chest. He was doing bench and put the towel there to absorb the impact of the bar coming down. He was BOUNCING the bar off his chest. Yes we may all cheat a little and arch/bounce, but this guy was doing like I have never seen before. Couple more weeks of that and his sternum should be ready to give... Some people.
=fu I was doing legs a few days ago. So i streched, warmed up and hit a set, then rested, while I was resting my fiance asked if i would spot her on the bench , while I was doing this a woman walked over and proceeded to take the plates off that I put on. Not to mention that my bag was on the leg press so this wouldnt happen. But she went right ahead w/o asking anyone around if someone was using the press. I politely said that I was using the press and that I was just resting. She came back in a bitchy tone "I didnt know you could reserve the equipment!" (Since I work at the gym were I lift, I didnt want to get into an argument with her, and have her tell my boss.) So I told to forget it and go ahead and use the press. What pisses me off is that she was on there for a total of one set, ONE FUCKING SET. She could not have waited? ARGH. Thank you fro listening to me vent. THEWIZARD

Thier always seems to be a group of these idiots at the gym I don't know where they come from but their always thier when I'm trying to conduct my bizz. My poundages keep going up and I keep getting more and more cut. While they still look the same and lift the same wieght don't get me wrong I'm not in it for stregth but it is a nice side effect. THEY ARE FUCKING LOSERS I JUST WANT TO TELL THEM SOMETIMES "GET THE FUCK OFF THE BENCH YOU KNOW YOUR JUST FUCKING YOUR TIME AROUND".
I was in rare form yesterday and showed up at the gym eager to do some cardio. As I grind out the seemingly endless minutes, I always scan around the gym to watch people, and just to plain pass the time. Well, I notice an older guy around 40-50 years old doing shoulder presses with some pretty heavy weights. Now, the guy was fairly skinny, so I was watching intently as he unracked the bar (without a spotter I might add). He proceeds to do about 5 reps by lowering the bar 4inches at about 100 miles an hour. The sheer elastic effect alone was lifting the weight. After his 5 shitty reps, he jumps off the bench, grabs a jumprope from his gymbag and starts jumping rope like a freaking banshee. There was a guy doing cable crossovers behind him and he had to back up to avoid getting whipped by the rope itself. As I watched in utter disbelief, I realized that I had now seen it all! holyintellect

I love these threads! My pet peeve is, you got it KIDS. You know, the high schoolers who pop in at the first and last of summer. Sure, many if not most of them are ok. But a bunch of them are stupid about working out, stupid about machine/station reserve protocol, just act like they wandered in without a clue or a care. They are a waste of space in the gym. Only 2 more weeks you slackers! =fu
