While doing a 5th and final set of close grip bench press of 1plate and 10kg each side for some reps, when I was ready I switched my thumbs back for a thumb less grip and WHHHOOOOOP!!:smashtard the bar came crashing down on my chest...LOL It just bounced off me like I was rubber and the weights fell off.....Everyone was like "are you ok, are you ok" and I started laughing and said yeah. This has never happened to me in my life before but now I know to be more careful.....it slipped mainly because my hands were super sweaty. I can imagine what would of happened if I was a twig...LOL My muscle acted like a sheild....I LOVE IT!
LOL I hate it when shit like that happens. You figure that they guy who looks like he knows how to work out doesnt get into those types of accidents, but it happens everyonce in awhile. you are right, good thing you had protection.:D
Look for yourself to be appearing in a "Crazy shit at the gym" thread. Thumbs are your friend mate. 🙂
Two days ago this guy at the gym (NOT me, I swear) had 3 skillets on each side of his bench bar. Dude gets up to rack his weights....... He pulls first plate of one side, then 2nd plate of same side, then.....all hell broke loose. Flippin' bar went flying through the air and crashed down on bench next to him! Luckily I was on the other side of the gym so I just saw it from a distance. I hate being next to people when they fuckup. I always wondered how much weight you could stack on one side of a bar before it flips over.
i saw a guy do that at Golds in Buffalo. the guy was squating 315lbs and started pulling the weight off. one, two and then the 3rd on one side. well, the shit got bad from there, hit someone in the leg and gave them one of the nastiest bruises ive seen.
Anyone know what the exact limit is that you can place on one side of the bar before it flips over?
it depends on the length of the bar and what it is set on (the base). but either 2 or 3 plates. on a ez curl bar its like one plate. lol, i keep thinking of that bar just flipping.
I tell you, man. I was pretty far away but it was INCREDIBLY loud.
i get scared of that shit, so i always unload 1 plate per side at a time.
Originally posted by biggreene i get scared of that shit, so i always unload 1 plate per side at a time. Yeah I am the same way, 2 plates on 1 side creeps me out. I am always scared the bar is going to flip through one of the mirror covered walls...which is pretty much all of them.
Yikes one at a time for me. It sucks enough already when someone walks over top of you while your laying down on the bench doing flyes or presses. Man that could mess you up if someone flipped the bar at you when you were down. MM:(

Matt was always a clumsy fucker...in whaqtever he did. He had the heart of a champion but someone must have pissed in his gene pool. Anyways...I have 365 on the bar in the rack, and we had to move the bench for some reason. Matt jerks the fucking bench in an attempt to move it....and the bar pops off the rack and crashes on the pad of the bench...bent the bar like a boomerang 🙂 You think thats bad...you should have seen him crash and burn during heavy squats.
