I usually don't change my routines excercise wise very often, But I do cycle sets and reps. Is there any scientific evidence to support either the often changes of training splits, or is there evidence to negate the regular changes?
I like to stick to a routine for 2-3 months.. I change just to keep fresh.. If you can find a copy of 'Super Training' by Mel Siff it's loaded with scientific data.. Charles Poliquin hs posted lots of stuff about this too.. do a search at t-mag..
Poliquin claims after 6-8 times repeating the same workout, its time to change. More so, as you become more conditioned, as your body becomes quicker at adapting. Personally I change after about six full cycles, by then the soreness has diminshed, and I feel too "familar" with it. I like the mental stimulation of new programs! Mel Siff was a scientific legend, remember him on the weights list, any answer was like a summary of ALL studies relating to the question...
I like to change about 6 to 7 weeks, depending on how my mesocycle at the time is and what i am doing, strenght, speed, accleration, plyo's..
every 3 months pretty much, but some workouts i change up one excercise if someone is using a machine or something
I never change, and I'm always sore, and I I always get in enough macros. lol. Weird. I'm going to be doing heavy multi joint excercises health willing for the next 6 months or so, we'll see how it works out.
I change way too fuckin much, almost weekly, cuz i'm a damn schizo when it comes to my lifting goals... One week,i'll be watchin the WSM contests on espn and get all inspired to train for pure power and hit a Westside style program, then a week or 2 later I'll pick up a MD or Flex mag and wanna go back to a hypertrophy routine....fuckin pisses me off, i try to balance between the two though
As far as when I train my bodyparts, that's stayed the same for years. My actual exercises that do in any given workout changes every single time.

Originally posted by tybolltt You don't feel like that hurts your goals? Honestly, I think it has helped. My body doesn't know what's coming each workout so it's getting hit with something new and different angles every time. I do have a tendency to adapt very quickly to certain exercises so I decided to make it different every workout. For example, if I bench pressed more than two weeks in a row, the second workout wasn't nearly as beneficial as I didn't feel it as much, the third was worse, and the fourth, forget about even feeling it. As it turns out, by doing different exercises every time I continue to get sore after nearly every single workout and I continue to make gains after 14 years of lifting.
I change all the time. If I start to feel tired for more than a week I switch to less volume if I can't sleep at night and just feel groggy I add volume. I don't care if I change every week. I listen to my body
I do 1-2 exercises per body part (@1set each). I change every workout for the one ex. bodyparts (ex. bis) I change 1 every workout for 2 set body parts (ex. chest). an example, today for chest I did flat db bench and dips, next w.o I will do the db benches but prob incline smith or something else instead of dips, then next workout I will do the inclines but sub something for db benches, next one I will keep whatever my second ex. was but something else subs for the inclines, etc...
