Just a little update. There was a post not to long ago about cardio on an empty stomach and a bunch of bros offered various opinions. I personally said I preferred cardio on an empty stomach. Seems there have been a couple of recent studies which show my advice may not have been the best. I know it is just a couple of studies, but apparently taking in a little as 3 grams of a full spectrum of amino acids (especially ones high in branch chain aminos) burned more fat and spared more muscle (and felt the cardio was easier to perform) than those who did cardio on an empty stomach. So maybe for those that usually do cardio on an empty stomach might try some protein/no carbs b/f cardio.

I always take 50g of protein before cardio with zero carbs. Ive always wondered if I should take some flax seed oil along with the shake. Any opinions?

Whats that saying ?? If you want the truth follow the money. The truth in a claim is different if the National Research Council funded the study/experiments than if CellTech did right??

You just can't read a summary of a journal and jump to conclusions.

I was all for cardio on an empty stomach. I'm just saying, it's always good to keep your mind open. Better than to get all the info. you can and make and informed decision about what's best for yourself than not have any info. at all. I don't have the cites right in front of me but i'm pretty sure it wasn't sponsored by a supplement company (it was a web search and I pulled it up from an academic site as opposed to culled from an advertisment, also I would think no one really has a vested interested in sponsoring blind studies using 3 grams of aminos you'd figure if you were going to pay for a study to sell aminos you'd at least tell them to take more, there were no recommendations as to the amount of aminos but just that 3 grams was helpful). Just my opinion.

As a female, I find that I get leaner, faster when I do my cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. My energy level sucks though, so I usually do more cardio after my weight routine in the afternoons as well. I was under the understanding that you go through the ATP process more quickly on an empty stomach. Seems to work for me.

Yep empty stomach works for me. I don't lose LBM. 15 minutes after I've woke I warm up to heart rate zone of about 80%, do that for 30 minutes, then 5 minute cool down. Drink a 900 calorie shake of: Myoplex 100g oats 500ml skim milk. I then stretch for about 10 minutes. If you are having to travel a long way to gym,and not eating for a while after there's the problem. Do cardio at home, or go out and run, and have a high calorie low GI carb shake for when you get back, as soon as cardio finishes.

Its not too difficult to understand if you know what a catabolic condition is and what your muscle do in that situation and the difference between weight loss and fat loss.

It seems that this is one of the longest running disagreements on Bolex. I still throw my hat into the "never do cardio on an empty stomach."....to back BigWill up. However....I do drive a Chevy. I once had a Fix Or Repair Daily car.....damn thing cost me a fortune.... :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
